Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity: What It Is

Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity launched Project R.E.D. in 2026. This guide separates its official multiverse premise from assumptions about the 1982 continuity.

Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity: What It Is

Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity premiered on TV Asahi at 9:30 a.m. on February 15, 2026. It replaced No.1 Sentai Gozyuger in the Sunday Super Hero Time lineup and became the first television entry under Toei’s Project R.E.D. label. Its run ended on July 19 after 23 episodes, followed by the theatrical story The Day the Sun Cried, released as part of Toei’s July 24 double feature.

A new Gavan, not a continuation season

The title deliberately recalls Uchuu Keiji Gavan from 1982, but the programme is not presented as the next routine assignment of Retsu Ichijouji. Its setting is a multiverse called the Cosmo Layer. Gavan Infinity serves a Multiverse Patrol and investigates cases across dimensional Earths. The official Bandai and TV Asahi material describes this dimension-crossing structure directly.

That makes words such as reboot, remake and sequel imperfect shortcuts. It is safest to call Gavan Infinity a new interpretation built from Space Sheriff imagery inside Project R.E.D. Any claim that the original trilogy has been erased, or that every old Metal Hero shares this new continuity, goes beyond the confirmed premise.

The three Gavan system

The series centres on Reiji Dojo, played by Kohei Nagata, as Gavan Infinity. It also introduces Gavan Bushido and Gavan Luminous. Rather than naming the additional heroes Sharivan and Shaider, Toei makes Gavan itself a role with multiple expressions. Early fan discussions expected a colour-coded update of the original trilogy; the broadcast chose a different system.

The Gavans transform using emotional-energy items called Emorgears with the Gavarion Trigger. Rage, sorrow and joy are associated with the three principal transformations. Those emotional labels and the transformation hardware are product and story facts. Claims that the system represents a complete emotional spectrum, a fan comparison often made online, are interpretation rather than official canon.

How it honours the original

The armour, police language and metallic finish provide the clearest connection. The word Jouchaku remains culturally inseparable from Gavan, and the new production knows viewers expect a technical transformation spectacle. Space-police investigation, a powerful mobile arsenal and a hero moving between ordinary life and armoured duty all echo the 1982 model.

The differences are equally important. The original Gavan defended one Earth against Makuu and searched for his father. Gavan Infinity investigates a network of worlds and uses several named Gavans. The red-chrome lead suit also reverses the original silver-first visual identity to fit Project R.E.D.’s red-hero concept.

Why the 23-episode length matters

Project R.E.D. did not simply replace one annual Sentai with another year-long Gavan season. Gavan Infinity ended in July, and the second Project R.E.D. programme, Kakusei Hunter Omegahorn, began on July 26 in the same slot. This confirmed that the brand can rotate distinct titles within one broadcast year while carrying characters and multiverse elements forward.

Reddit reaction to the completed series is divided. Some viewers praised the faster pace and multiverse possibilities; others felt a cast and plot sized for a longer programme had been compressed. Those are audience assessments, not production facts. The measurable point is that 23 episodes made Gavan Infinity a shorter launch chapter than a traditional roughly year-long Sentai season.

Merchandise and collector context

Bandai supported the launch with the DX Gavarion Trigger, Emorgears and multiple figure formats. The Tokusatsu Action Figure Gavan Infinity is approximately 160 millimetres tall with more than 30 points of articulation and includes an Emorgear that works with the DX device. Tamashii Nations also announced S.H.Figuarts for Infinity, Bushido and Luminous.

Collectors should verify which scale and interaction they want before buying. DX items prioritize lights, sounds and role play; Tokusatsu Action Figure releases prioritize accessible articulation; S.H.Figuarts prioritize a smaller premium display format. None is automatically the definitive edition. Gavan Infinity’s historical importance is clearer: it was the transition programme between fifty years of continuous Sentai television and Toei’s new rotating Project R.E.D. experiment.
