Super Sentai Is Ending in 2026: What We Know
Toei has officially confirmed Super Sentai concludes in 2026 after a 50-year run. Here's what's ending, why, and what replaces it in the Sunday morning slot.

This isn't fan speculation — Toei has officially confirmed that Super Sentai, one of tokusatsu's longest-running franchises, is ending. Here's exactly what's been announced.
What's confirmed
Super Sentai concludes with its current season, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, wrapping in early 2026. The franchise began with Himitsu Sentai Gorenger on April 5, 1975, meaning the series runs for roughly 50 years by the time it ends — one of the longest continuously-produced tokusatsu franchises ever made.
Why it's ending
Toei's stated reason is financial: inadequate revenue from related events, tie-in merchandise, and movie adaptations relative to production costs. This isn't a case of the franchise losing its TV Asahi Sunday morning slot to a competitor — it's a direct call that the current production model no longer pencils out the way it once did.
What replaces it
Toei isn't leaving the Sunday 9:30 a.m. slot empty. Project R.E.D. and Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity take over that time slot in 2026, reviving the 1982 Metal Hero character Gavan as the first title under the new Project R.E.D. banner, with a focus on red-suited heroes and a new metallic red suit design. It's a genre pivot as much as a format change — from a full ensemble team back toward the single-hero Metal Hero tradition Gavan originally came from.
What this means for Power Rangers
Power Rangers has been built from licensed Super Sentai footage since 1993's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers used Zyuranger as its source material. With no new Sentai seasons being produced after Gozyuger, that decades-old production pipeline runs out of fresh source footage — see our explainer on how the adaptation actually works for what that dependency looks like in practice, and what changes once it's gone.

What this doesn't mean
It doesn't mean Toei is exiting tokusatsu, and it doesn't affect any of the roughly 50 existing Super Sentai seasons already available to watch — those remain exactly as watchable (and as worth starting) as they were before this announcement.
